Raising Awareness for Kidney Health in 2019

On November 2, 2019, South Texas Renal Care was honored to sponsor and participate in the 2019 TKF Family Walk/Run event to help raise awareness on kidney health and promote the early detection of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).

Every year the Texas Kidney Foundation has a Walk/Run and Family Fun Festival. Patients, caregivers, and friends from all over the city converge upon Nelson Wolf stadium. Why? To support early detection of CKD. By finding the disease early, we help people maintain their quality of life. The walk is a time for members of the renal community to come together to support the fight against CKD.

Did You Know?

Did you know that 1 in 3 American adults are at risk for kidney disease? Kidney disease often has no symptoms and can go undetected until advanced stages. Simple blood and kidney test can tell if you have kidney disease. Remember, it is vital to get tested because early detection and treatment can slow or prevent the progression of kidney disease.

Six Simple Steps To Healthier Kidneys

Step 1: Keep blood pressure and diabetes in check. High blood pressure and diabetes are the two leading causes of renal failure.

Step 2: Get tested.

Step 3: Reduce the use of OTC pain medicine.

Step 4: Cut down on processed foods.

Step 5: Quit smoking.

Step 6: Get active!

By the way, we’re happy to announce that we were recipients of the 2019 Kidney Glove award for our efforts towards kidney disease awareness! If you haven’t attended the Texas Kidney Foundation Family Walk and Run before, make 2020 your first year. It is worth the time!

How to Understand Blood Pressure Readings
